The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional and important celebration in China. Qu Yuan was a loyal and patriotic official who was exiled by the king he served. When he learned that his country had been invaded and conquered, he drowned himself in the Miluo River out of despair. The local people, who admired and respected Qu Yuan, raced out in their boats to save him or at least retrieve his body. They also threw rice dumplings into the river to prevent the fish from eating his body. These actions have evolved into the traditions of dragon boat racing and eating zongzi during the festival.

The highlight of the Dragon Boat Festival is undoubtedly the dragon boat races. The long, narrow boats are adorned with dragon heads and tails, and rowers paddle in unison to the rhythm of beating drums. The races are not only a test of strength and teamwork, but also a spectacular and exhilarating event for both participants and spectators. The air is filled with excitement and anticipation as the boats glide through the water, with the sound of drums echoing in the air.

Another important tradition of the festival is the consumption of zongzi. In addition to dragon boat racing and eating zongzi, people also hang up calamus and wormwood leaves, and wear sachets filled with these herbs. It is believed that the fragrance of these herbs can repel insects and evil spirits, and protect people from diseases.
